ExtraBaseHit: Weekend review

With the free agent market ready to open up Thursday, only a few teams made moves this weekend.  The Mariners decided to extend SS Jack Wilson's contract by one extra year.  Wilson had an option for the 2010 season, but they decided to change the contract a bit & make it a 2-year / $10M contract.  In 31 games for Seattle, the .268 career hitter only had a .224 average & 8 RBI.  In other news, the Brewers declined a $6.5M contract on P Braden Looper.  Looper was 14-7 on the season, but posted a 5.54 ERA after the All-Star break.  Oddly enough, only 4 of his 14 wins came at home.  After acquiring P Rafael Betancourt from the Indians, the Rockies decided to decline his $5.4M option for next season.  in 32 games for the Rockies, Betancourt had a 1.78 ERA with 5 BB & 29 K in 25.1 innings.  Money seemed to be the reason behind the declined option, although the Rockies still hope to re-sign him soon.
