The American League Cy Young Award winner for 2009 is Royals P Zack Greinke. The Royals ace had a great year finishing at 16-8, 2.16 ERA and 240 strikeouts in 229.1 innings pitched in 33 starts. Greinke beat out the Yankees CC Sabathia, Tigers Justin Verlander, Mariners P Felix Hernandez & Blue Jays P Roy Halladay. Greinke has come a long way from his 2005 campaign where he finished with 17 losses (leading the American League in that category) Greinke started the 2009 season with a 0.84 ERA over his first 10 starts, but also finished with an impressive 0.75 ERA in his last 8 starts.
